The Recon Mission
The morning started with me, eating biscuits and gravy in the FJ on the main street in Leadville. Then Craiggles showed up and bought a BONIFIDE Leadville 100 Race Map.  I took directions, they rode their steeds the first 60 outbound miles of the race.  I took pictures, got lost, then found, then lost, then found. These pictures say it all folks:

July 5th - Geyser Pass - South of Moab

On the 5th Chad and I drove about 3 miles outside of Moab before sunrise and he began his ride up Geyser Pass. It was 19 miles of riding, 5,500 feet of climbing.  It was much cooler than the desert heat.  Amazing views, Chad said it was a ball buster.

July 4th in MOAB - Pipe Dream Trail

Our 4th of July this year was pretty awesome.  We spent a few days in Moab with old and new friends.  They were heading out to do the San Juan Huts.  We were bummed that we were not able to go along for the ride this year, but spending the 4th with them was great!   With temps over 100 degrees we quickly realized that we did not miss the Oklahoma temps.  We started our first ride on the Pipe Dream Trail that was fun going from South to North.  THEN, we met the Hut Nut Team (Des, Corey, Jarod, Cleo, Raton and Katy) and rode from North to South that sucked (I crashed, it was Des' fault). Here's some photos:

I remember this race, it was our first date involving Chad racing. We think this photo was taken in either 2005 or 2006 at Roman Nose. SURLY 1X1... I dropped his water... He won 1st in the single speed class.  Comment below if you remember this race and if you were riding/racing what steed were you on? If you weren't racing, who were you cheering on, or any outlandish memory you have will be rated on a scale from 1-5 stars!

Durango, Colorado - Pagosa Springs - Wolf Creek Pass Summit - DelNorte

Just this last weekend we traveled to Durango to see our friends Austin and Megan get married.  It was amazing and we were blessed to get to witness it and spend some great time with the wedding couple and their family and friends.  I will never forget the "Mouse Tattoo" joke.  In honor of Austin, it was truly EPIC!  Thank you guys for an awesome time, and I (Amanda) have stopped crying.

On Saturday morning Chad road a few trails with Austin, Ryan, Randy, and a few of their family and friends.  They left from Fort Lewis College and road Ridgeline trails. Chad said it was pretty damn steep and pretty dangerous.

While we were up there I found part of the Iron Horse Race trail that we did last year and rode a bit on it and then road down to downtown Durango with a newbie I met the night before at the rehearsal dinner.

Saturday night was the wedding and Sunday morning I woke up feeling like the wine donkey had kicked me in the head, but Chad was there to give me some Ibuprofen's and I was all better.  I thought I better save some face and do something nice for him.  Lol.  So we drove to Pagosa Springs and he started his 2 hour and 12 minute journey up Wolf Creek Pass Summit. Total mileage 23 and 3,860 feet of climbing.

During the drive at Pagosa, I thought is this really safe for him to be riding on this road? Then I passed two woman road riders and thought okay, we are good.  If they can do it, I KNOW HE CAN.  Chad of course caught up to the ladies, it made me smile. :) He stopped at the Summit/Continental Divide for a picture and hopped in the FJ at the Wolf Creek Ski Resort and I drove him thru two tunnels that had no shoulder, he jumped back out and continued to ride down the pass to Delnorte in 1 hour and 23 minutes.  Total mileage 27.7 and only 215 feet of climbing.

I love seeing a determined man living out a dream.

Welcome to my world, won't you come on in.

With that said, it's really simple here guys & dolls.  This blog is a way that I can make a virtual scrapbook of my husband's journey to his dream race AND for those who want to go along for the ride, LET'S GO!!

Most of you know Chad and I propelled our household contents in a U-Haul and moved to Denver, Colorado in October of 2011.  We followed our hearts and moved away from the place we had always lived to chase after a passion we share of nature, mountains and riding our bikes.  We are normal folks with lots of wonderful family and friends.  Of course, most of them are all in Oklahoma, because most people that live in Colorado are not from Colorado and are whack jobs (EXCEPT for: Steve & Karen, Sherie, Craig, Mike and Marianne).  We are truly blessed to continue to have wonderful relationships with our family and friends, I call them our Oklahomies and our few normal peeps here in Colorado.  Anyway, enough of sentimental crap. Let's start pedaling...
